Zinedine Zidane still hopes to become the national team coach of France someday, but he felt that this wasn't the right moment. The coach has been without a club since 2021 and is currently considering his next move.
Last year, Zidane was repeatedly linked to the position of national team coach for France, but ultimately Didier Deschamps signed a new contract until the summer of 2026. "I have often said that if you have been a player for the national team, it is logical to consider becoming a national team coach," he told GQ Magazine. "But this is not the moment."
Zidane primarily hopes for an adventure with sufficient challenge. "When I played for Cannes, I wanted to go to Bordeaux. Then I wanted to play for Juventus and later for Real Madrid. All because it was a different and bigger experience. That's what I call ambition. I have always been ambitious and have always believed in myself."
Zidane began his coaching career at Real Madrid, where he won the Champions League three times in a row. After a sabbatical year, he returned to Real Madrid in 2019. "I don't prepare things, I do it by instinct. We had won a lot of titles, and I really needed to take a breath. That break did me good, and eight months later, I dived back in."
Zidane's second spell at Real Madrid was slightly less successful. Although he won the domestic league title, he couldn't win the Champions League again. "I could have told myself that it was enough. Why put myself back there? Why take the risk of not doing as well? But I don't calculate all that, I do it instinctively."
Juventus The big question is what Zidane's next step will be. In addition to being linked with France, he has also been associated with Paris Saint-Germain. However, according to RMC Sport, Juventus is at the top of his list, despite his former club missing out on European football. The main problem is that the current coach, Massimiliano Allegri, has a contract until mid-2025 in Turin.
