Barcelona had joyful news to report Monday afternoon. The Catalan club has broken open the contract of the talented Lamine Yamal, meaning he is now signed until mid-2026. Barcelona would surely have liked to bind him for longer, but that is not allowed.

It's not the first contract that Barcelona has extended this season. Typically, the Spanish top club ensures that it gives players a contract for about five years, as happened last week with Alejandro Baldé. The talented defender signed a contract until the summer of 2028.
However, this was not possible with Yamal. This is due to the regulations, which stipulate that clubs can give 16-year-old players a maximum contract of three years. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona wanted to bind the forward for much longer, which is why the club has devised a plan.
According to the Spanish medium, Barcelona has already reached a principal agreement with Yamal's management for an even longer collaboration. His agent Jorge Mendes would agree with Barcelona on a contract until mid-2030. However, due to regulations, his signature will not be set until 2025.
