The Championship champion played their last match of the season on May 8th and gave the players a little under four weeks off, but they are starting their preparations well in advance. The club hopes to avoid relegation from the Premier League again in the upcoming season, as they experienced in the 2021-22 season.

On Thursday, the squad will also depart for an eight-day training camp in Portugal. Afterward, the players will have another short vacation of ten days before resuming preparations on Monday, June 26th. Manager Kompany explains on the club's website why he wanted to have his players on the field already. "We had three weeks off, and we also had a winter break. That lasted a few weeks as well, so I think we've had enough vacation for this year," said the Belgian.

"I don't see why we should work any less hard just because we won the league," Kompany continues. "We're really looking forward to returning (to the top level). The time we have with the players on the field right now is invaluable to us."
