Tevez sounds the alarm: 'Three of my players cannot add or subtract'

Since Carlos Tevez has gone from star striker to novice coach, the Argentine has become more involved with the development of footballers. In doing so, the former player of clubs like West Ham United, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, and Boca Juniors came to a shocking conclusion.

Tevez told his story in the Argentine sports newspaper Olé. He talked about how he conducts his training sessions. 'I organize speed exercises, related to neuroscience. When the player is physically exhausted, I have them solve a math problem. Two plus two, for example. And three of the boys on my team told me that they could not add or subtract, even though they play at the highest level.'

For the coach, this was a shocking discovery. He draws conclusions from it. 'This is sheer poverty. You can feed a child and provide him with other things, but studying... A player has to be able to defend himself mentally, he needs to know what he's facing and what he's signing.'

Tevez took immediate action after his discovery. 'We started a project at the club and paired these players with a teacher. This way, they can study for a few hours after training.' Tevez began his coaching career last year at Rosario Central, and two months ago he joined Independiente, which is competing at the top in the Copa de la Superliga.
