Erik ten Hag gives Kobbie Mainoo the opportunity against Everton. The eighteen-year-old talent from the academy starts for the first time in the lineup of Manchester United at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Mainoo is considered a great talent but has not played for United this season. This is partly due to an ankle injury that plagued the midfielder for a long time. Mainoo wore the United shirt in the Premier League once before, in February during the match against Leicester City. Against Everton, Mainoo forms a partnership with Scott McTominay.
"If you're good enough, you're old enough? 'Yes, that's our mentality,'" said Ten Hag on United's club channel. "Mainoo has shown himself in the preparation but got injured then. He has come a long way. We have prepared him well for this match. In recent weeks, he has already played a few minutes, and now he is ready to start."
This means that Sofyan Amrabat will once again start on the bench. The 27-year-old midfielder has not played a minute in the Premier League this month. Donny van de Beek, like Amrabat, takes a place on the bench. The Dutchman played his only Premier League minutes of the season at the end of September and has not been in the match squad for the last three games.
Antony is also not available. The former Ajax forward took a knock in training this week and has not been deemed fit enough.
