It didn't have much impact on the course of the Madrid derby, but coach Diego Simeone wonders why Jude Bellingham was not penalized with a red card for a hard tackle on Ángel Correa.
Bellingham tackled the Argentine forward of Atlético Madrid hard in stoppage time, but the English midfielder from Real Madrid was allowed to stay on the field with a yellow card. Simeone reacted furiously from the sidelines.
'To me, it looked like a red card,' the Argentine coach explained his reaction afterwards. 'He hit his leg hard, while Angelito played the ball. But when I review it, I can judge it better.'
In the Madrid derby, for a change, Bellingham couldn't make the difference for Real. 'I think the spaces were tighter,' said Simeone. 'We had more control; that is truly an exceptional achievement,' said the coach of Atlético, who lost 3-0 away to Valencia the previous week. 'The team played a very good game. We told them to do the same as always, but sometimes it goes better than other days.'
With Antoine Griezmann and Álvaro Morata as standouts for Atlético. Simeone praised the French forward for his defensive work and hopes that the Spanish striker, who scored two goals, continues this way. 'Apart from his goals, he played a fantastic match. We need this Morata; we know what he's capable of. I hope he can maintain this level with the national team and Atleti, as it's good for everyone.'
