Cristiano Ronaldo played a role in the offer that Karim Benzema received from Saudi Arabia, sources have confirmed to AS. The 35-year-old forward from Real Madrid almost accepted the offer.
Since his move to Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has been the main figurehead of Saudi Arabian football. The decision-makers in the oil-rich state hope that the 38-year-old Portuguese can also play a role in attracting other stars. The veteran spoke highly of playing and living in Saudi Arabia to his former teammate at Real Madrid.
"Benzema asked Ronaldo about the level of competition and the living conditions. Cristiano's answer was convincing. The Frenchman became convinced of the advantages of a move to Saudi Arabia," writes AS. Benzema is even said to have reached an agreement with the Saudi government regarding a transfer to Ittihad FC, the champion of Saudi Arabia.
According to various Spanish media outlets, Benzema later changed his mind. During a press event on Thursday, the top striker dismissed the rumors of leaving Real Madrid. He still has a contract with Madrid until mid-2024.
