Loïs Openda is now a player for RB Leipzig. The former forward from Vitesse has completed his transfer to the Bundesliga. For the German top club, this signifies a new record purchase.
Leipzig is transferring approximately 40 million, exclusive of bonuses, to RC Lens, where Openda was contracted last season. This makes him a record transfer, while the French runner-up of Ligue 1 has never before received such a large sum from an outgoing transfer. Last year, the Belgian was taken over from Club Brugge for twelve million euros.
In France, Openda was directly involved in an impressive 25 goals in his debut year. Additionally, he made his debut in the national team of Belgium. The 'Red Devil' impressed and caught the attention of various top clubs. Leipzig acted the most promptly.
At the German club, Openda is the successor to Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman was sold to Chelsea for around sixty million euros. The void left behind is now to be filled by the former Vitesse player.
