Raúl González Blanco, better known as Raúl, is on Villarreal's list to succeed the dismissed Quique Setién. This would mark the Real Madrid icon's first job as a head coach in La Liga.

After a lackluster start to the season, Setién had to step down at Villarreal. The Spanish club only managed to collect three points from the first four matches of the season. The club management has now begun the search for a suitable successor. According to DAZN, Raúl is high on Villarreal's shortlist.
Raúl is currently the head coach of Real Madrid Castilla, the reserve team of Real Madrid. Last season, he came close to securing promotion to the second tier of Spain, and this season, he will have another chance to do so if Villarreal doesn't lure away the former top striker.
Raúl's name is also frequently mentioned when it comes to succeeding Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. However, Spanish media report that he now faces stiff competition for that role. The club management is said to be quite enamored with Xabi Alonso, who is making a strong impression as the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen.
