In Istanbul, City secured the treble, crowning the British top club's project that was initiated years ago. After all the celebrations finally came to an end, the match winner took a moment to himself. He revealed this to the Daily Mail.
'I've watched my goal five thousand times,' said the Spaniard with a big smile. He did it in every possible way. 'I watched them with all kinds of commentaries - in Spanish, English, German, Italian, you name it. My life has changed because of that goal.'
Rodri noticed a tremendous increase in his popularity after scoring the winning goal against Internazionale. 'When I go on vacation now and people see me, they chant my name. I hope I can still have some privacy in my life in the future. I'm not used to this.'
'I would have preferred to take a few months off to analyze what actually happened,' Rodri revealed. The midfielder can hardly believe that he scored the most important goal in the history of the club. 'Everything is moving so fast. Honestly, I wasn't in such great form back then.'
Manager Pep Guardiola was very critical of Rodri in the lead-up to the final. However, the life of the Spanish midfielder changed definitively after he shot City to victory in the billion-dollar tournament. 'I wasn't really happy with my performances. The coach was also very honest and thought I needed to improve. Then, I took a step forward, and things got better, resulting in the goal.'
