Lionel Messi has made a name for himself in the United States. The Argentine world champion made a big impression in his first few months at Inter Miami FC. Yet, it is notable that he has been nominated as the best player in the MLS.

On October 22nd, the regular competition ends in the United States. Therefore, the MLS has already announced which players are in contention for the MLS MVP title, as the best player of the competition. Messi is one of the thirty names on the list of contenders.
The fact that Messi is nominated is notable. The left-footer has only played four matches in the MLS since he settled in Miami. In those, he scored once, while providing two assists. In addition to being nominated as the best player, Messi is also nominated as the best newcomer. Sergio Busquets, who also moved to Miami following Messi, is also in contention for both titles.
Messi made a big impression in his first few months at Inter Miami, but did so especially in the League Cup tournament. There he played seven matches, scored ten times, and secured his new employer the first major prize in the club’s history. However, in the regular competition, it was less spectacular.
Besides Messi and Busquets, there are other well-known contenders to be named the best player of the MLS. For example, Thiago Almada is an important candidate. The Argentine was desired by Ajax last summer and showed his qualities in the United States. Also, the Belgian Christian Benteke (DC United), former VVV-Venlo forward Giorgios Giakomakis (Atlanta United), and Riqui Puig (Los Angeles Galaxy) are in contention.
