Jérôme Rothen has once again strongly criticized Lionel Messi following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentine is accused of diva behavior. Christophe Dugarry also doesn't find Messi's explanation for his departure from PSG convincing.
Messi was a player for PSG for two seasons but stated that he didn't always feel well in Paris, mainly because he had less time for family and friends. "I remember when he left training early," says Rothen on RMC Sport. "The club said he had a calf injury, but that's not true. He wasn't happy with the training and didn't feel good. He went back to the locker room, took a shower, and left. That says a lot about how much respect he had for his coach and teammates. We heard several things, but we kept quiet because it wasn't the right time to talk about it."
"Messi constantly tried to change the timing of the training sessions. He told the staff multiple times that it's not good to train in the morning and it should be done in the afternoon. Fortunately, they didn't go along with it. Messi didn't want to adapt," Rothen continues.
Dugarry, who previously referred to Messi as a "half-autistic kid," also criticizes him. "This statement is incomprehensible. Of course, you may not feel well for two years, but then come up with valid arguments. He says he couldn't pick up his children from school, but that tires me out a bit. Everything is done to make players comfortable, and yet they still complain," Rothen continues. "Put yourself in the shoes of your teammates, the coach, the fans... It's ridiculous."
