Manchester United presents Onana as De Gea's successor

André Onana has completed his top transfer to Manchester United. The Premier League's third-placed team announced the arrival of the goalkeeper through their official website, reportedly acquiring him from Internazionale for fifty million euros. He signs a contract until mid-2028 with an option for one more year.

The transfer of Onana had been in the air for quite some time and has now finally been confirmed. The goalkeeper has been brought in as the successor to David de Gea, who left Old Trafford after twelve seasons as his contract expired. The name of Justin Bijlow was also mentioned at Old Trafford, but United's choice ultimately fell on Onana.

This reunites Onana with his former coach, Ten Hag, who had the Cameroonian goalkeeper under his wing for four and a half years while at Ajax. In Amsterdam, Onana showcased his footballing abilities, something that De Gea is not particularly known for. Therefore, Ten Hag decided to replace the Spanish club icon.

Onana will become the second Cameroonian player to wear the Manchester United shirt. Éric Djemba-Djemba preceded him, playing twenty matches for The Red Devils between 2003 and 2005.
