Virgil van Dijk could easily be the new captain of Liverpool. Manager Jürgen Klopp will most likely have to look for a new arm to wear the armband, as Jordan Henderson is close to a transfer to Saudi Arabia.
James Milner was next in line, but the workhorse closed the doors of Anfield behind him this summer to play for Brighton & Hove Albion. In the search for a successor, Virgil van Dijk has already been mentioned as a prominent candidate based on his experience and leadership qualities, and now new signing Dominik Szoboszlai has dropped a new hint on Instagram.
Van Dijk responded to a post from the Hungarian, who, in turn, replied to the Dutchman with an emoji depicting the letter C, which is commonly used for 'captain.' It seems highly likely that Van Dijk will soon be not only the captain of the Dutch national team but also the captain of Liverpool.
It wouldn't be the first time that a Dutchman becomes the captain of The Reds; Dirk Kuijt occasionally wore the armband during his years at Anfield. Back then, it was, of course, only as a substitute since Steven Gerrard was the undisputed captain of the club during those years. The same Gerrard, by bringing Henderson to his club Al-Ettifaq, is now paving the way for a Dutch captain. On Wednesday evening, Van Dijk already wore the armband in the friendly match against Karlsruher SC.
