Joan Laporta delighted Spain with some remarkable statements on Saturday. The president of Barcelona spoke about the club's clout in the transfer market. He also gave insight into the club's grand ambitions.
In Catalonia, everyone has been focused on the Joãos for a while now. João Cancelo and João Félix have seamlessly adapted to the club.
However, as the Portuguese duo is on loan, a longer future is not guaranteed. Laporta confirmed that internally they are convinced of the duo's value.
'We are interested in making their stay permanent,' Laporta declared to Marca, while on a commercial trip in Saudi Arabia. This would require cooperation from Manchester City (Cancelo) and Atlético Madrid (Félix). 'But we are going to start negotiations shortly. We have a good relationship with both clubs.'
Barça was the national champion last season. The top club aims to retain the title this year, Laporta said. 'That is our biggest goal. I am also convinced that we will make it. After all the injuries, like Frenkie de Jong, we have almost everyone back. Against Atlético Madrid (1-0 victory, editor's note), we showed that we control top matches. If we also improve in possession, we will be unbeatable.'
La Liga is the main goal, but Laporta did not hold back. According to the president, it does not stop there. 'I think everyone also knows that Barça will be the favorite to win the Champions League.'
