Lampard after humiliating lap of honor: 'My successor can give me a call.'

Frank Lampard's interim stint at Chelsea has come to an end. A 1-1 draw against Newcastle United was the final sip from a poisoned chalice that grew deeper with each passing week. After a completely failed season, a new era begins at Stamford Bridge.

The current season couldn't have ended in a more painful way. Lampard and the other departing individuals took one last lap to thank the crowd. Their timid applause was completely drowned out by the away fans from Northeast England, who turned up the volume to remind their hosts that they had indeed qualified for the Champions League.

Lampard was asked about his thoughts on this during the post-match press conference. "The situation was already beyond salvaging when I took over this season. You learn from every situation, and I feel fortunate to work for this club, which I truly appreciate. But there are a lot of things that need to improve," said Lampard. What advice would he give to his successor?

"I'm not sure if I should say it openly, but anyone can call me. But physically, we're not good enough. The squad is also too large, and that has been the biggest challenge I've faced here. Working with so many players, some of whom may be a bit disillusioned. Those situations need to be resolved," Lampard added, not exaggerating. Owner Todd Boehly bought so many players this season that they couldn't even fit all of them in the dressing room.

Regarding the advice, it now seems like a question of whether Mauricio Pochettino has Frank Lampard's number, as several British sources indicate that the appointment of the Argentine in London is a matter of time. His task will be to get this expensive, non-performing squad to click.
