There were some raised eyebrows when Allan Saint-Maximin was absent from the Newcastle United squad for the match against Rangers, and the suspicions are true, as stated by Eddie Howe.

"Allan is in talks regarding a transfer to another club. Nothing has been confirmed or finalized, but that is why he wasn't with us today. With Financial Fair Play, we need to sell in order to buy. That's how the system works, and we understand that," Howe told The Chronicle, the local newspaper in Newcastle and surrounding areas.

Despite the circumstances, the Englishman is saddened by Saint-Maximin's potential departure. "Maxi is a top player whom we definitely don't want to lose, but these things happen sometimes. We have to accept it, but it will be a difficult moment if we do lose him," concluded the manager, who also mentioned that Saint-Maximin will not fly with the team to the United States on Wednesday to continue preparations for the new season.

Howe did not disclose the name of the club attempting to tempt Saint-Maximin, but various media outlets have mentioned Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli. The Saudis are rumored to have offered €25 million for the 26-year-old winger. Saint-Maximin has spent four seasons with Newcastle, making 124 appearances in the black-and-white of his current club.
