Hoffenheim presents Weghorst: 'Extraordinary transfer'

Wout Weghorst definitively returns to the Bundesliga. 1899 Hoffenheim has loaned the striker from Burnley for a year and presented the Dutchman on Wednesday. Weghorst will wear the number 10 jersey at the twelfth-placed team of the last Bundesliga season.

Weghorst consciously chooses Hoffenheim, he revealed on his new employer's club website. 'I had more opportunities and I've thought a lot about my future. The Hoffenheim management did everything to bring me here. That made a big impression on me. It feels good to be here. I'm happy that everything is now concluded. I want to repay the trust the club has in me on the field.'

Director Alexander Rosen is proud to have succeeded in bringing Weghorst to Hoffenheim. 'I don't think I'm exaggerating when I describe this transfer as remarkable and extraordinary. It definitely is for us. The fact that a striker with his credentials chooses Hoffenheim shows that we have appeal for reputable players.'

Special profile
According to Rosen, Hoffenheim was determined to bring in Weghorst and that's why it took a bit longer. 'We chose a special profile in our search for a striker and we worked on this for weeks. This might not be the fastest, but it's definitely the best solution. We believe that Wout, with his mentality, experience, and goal-scoring ability, will boost the whole team.'

Weghorst previously played for VfL Wolfsburg, where he was directly involved in 92 goals in 144 official matches. He realized his dream of playing in the Premier League with Burnley, but couldn't prevent the team from relegation. After that, the forward was loaned to Besiktas and then Manchester United. He returned to Turf Moor this summer.
