It was not a matter of if but when Van Ewijk would leave Heerenveen. In the Netherlands, PSV was mostly mentioned as a possible new club, while Anderlecht and several English clubs also had him on their radar.

It is now almost certain that England will be Van Ewijk's new destination. The clubs have agreed on the main terms, and now it's up to Van Ewijk to reach an agreement with his potential new club. He boarded the plane on Thursday morning to finalize the transfer. The transfer is said to involve a fixed fee of four million euros, but Heerenveen has also negotiated bonuses and a percentage of any future resale.

Heerenveen signed Van Ewijk in the summer of 2021 for approximately half a million euros from ADO Den Haag, which had secured a twenty percent resale percentage at the time and will benefit significantly from this transfer. In 2019, Van Ewijk was still playing for the amateurs of Excelsior Maassluis. His contract with Heerenveen was scheduled to run until the summer of 2025.

Heerenveen sees Denzel Hall as Van Ewijk's successor. The club had already reached a verbal agreement with Feyenoord but had to wait for the sale of Van Ewijk. Now, it appears that Fortuna Sittard has also entered the race for his signature.
