Griezmann has scored an impressive 169 goals for Atlético. With this tally, he is second on the club's all-time top scorers list. Only Luis Aragonés is ahead of him. More than fifty years ago, the production of Griezmann's predecessor stalled. After three league titles and 173 goals, Aragonés hung up his boots in mid-1974.

Griezmann is aware of the proven services of the club icon. 'Hopefully I'll surpass him, that's what I'm working hard for. I can hardly imagine it and still need to score a few more goals. Emotionally, it's incomprehensible that I could equal him at this massive club,' he told Marca.

'I do want to become a club icon, yes,' Griezmann admitted to the Spanish media. Although he became a world champion, unlike Aragonés, he lacks a major prize with his club. During the last league title, Griezmann was making his move to Barcelona. 'I still have to earn the right to be seen as a legend here.'

For now, Atlético is actively competing, following the surprising Girona, Real Madrid, and Barcelona. 'I have many goals, but winning La Liga is at the top. I need that title. It's been a long time since I've won it. Hopefully, it will happen.'

Atlético plays at home against RCD Mallorca on Saturday night. Three days later, they will visit De Kuip, where Feyenoord awaits in the group stage of the Champions League.
