Great reinforcement for Ten Hag: Man Utd unveils Mount

The transfer of Mason Mount to Manchester United has been completed. The 24-year-old midfielder reportedly joins the club for around 65 million euros (excluding bonuses) from Chelsea, the club where he came through the academy.

Mount had a one-year remaining contract at Chelsea, and negotiations for a new agreement yielded no results last season. With the expiring contract, the 36-time English international became an interesting transfer target for top clubs in the Premier League. United has emerged victorious in the battle for the versatile midfielder.

For The Red Devils, Mount is the first major reinforcement on their way to the new season, and for the player, it is the first time in his career that he definitively leaves Chelsea. Mount gained experience on loan at Vitesse and Derby County before breaking through at Stamford Bridge and playing a part in, among other things, the Champions League triumph in the 2020/21 season.

With Mount's arrival, Erik ten Hag has more options in midfield. It is expected that the acquisition will compete with Christian Eriksen for the position on the left, alongside Casemiro, behind attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes. Mount could also play as a number 10. Last season, Ten Hag already had Fernandes play as a disguised winger on several occasions.
