A few years ago, it was announced that Milan and Inter would leave the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. The idea was to demolish the iconic stadium and build a new one in the vacant space. An architectural design had even been chosen. However, a regional heritage commission put an end to that plan, forcing both clubs to come up with a new idea.

Now, the selected designer for Milan's new stadium has confirmed that they will proceed. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the newspaper that broke the news, construction of the new stadium will begin in 2025 and is expected to take four years. The new stadium will be located further away from the center of Milan. The designer hinted that the stadium's capacity will be increased to 70 thousand, and it will consist of two tiers.

In the meantime, the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, with a capacity of 75 thousand, will continue to be in use. The stadium is in contention to host a future Champions League final, and it will be the venue for the opening of the Olympic Winter Games in 2026. Milan and Inter have shared the stadium since 1947.
