Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is not yet counting his riches due to his team's current success in the Premier League, but after the record victory over West Ham United, he did discuss his dream of entering the Champions League with Villa.
Villa achieved their eleventh consecutive home victory in the Premier League against West Ham, setting a new club record. The Villans, who finished seventh last season after an impressive run under Emery, currently hold fifth place after nine league matches. They are just two points behind leaders Manchester City.
Villa’s upcoming opponent in the Conference League, AZ, will see them continue their Premier League success story (between the two matches with AZ) in games against Luton Town and Nottingham Forest. 'I think seven teams in the Premier League will compete for the Champions League tickets: Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle,' Emery told BeIN Sports.
'We have set our sights on chasing those seven teams. You are always allowed to dream. My ultimate dream is to one day win the Champions League, but the reality is that we are currently fifth. We have to give our all in every match to win,' said the Spanish manager. Newcastle, Manchester United, and Chelsea are currently trailing behind Villa.
'You are always allowed to dream. My dream is to win the Champions League, but right now we are in fifth place, and we are going into every game working hard to put on a good performance. We have 29 matches left, and we lost earlier this season to Newcastle and Liverpool. We won’t get those points back. Fortunately, we won against West Ham, a team that is also in good form. That satisfies me,' Emery said. In the Conference League group with AZ, Villa recently won against Zrinsjki Mostar and lost to Legia Warsaw.
