Marseille failed to win any of its last three league matches, and things went awry again for l'OM in the sixth minute on Saturday evening. Kevin Gameiro's powerful shot was stopped by goalkeeper Pau López. The 36-year-old forward, not being selfish on the rebound, passed the ball to his attacking partner Emegha.

The Jong Oranje international eagerly shot the ball into the open goal, making it 1-0. For the talented forward, who transferred from Sturm Graz last summer, this was his second goal of the season in Ligue 1.

Marseille equalized through a former Strasbourg player. Jonathan Clauss spent ten years in the youth academy of the Alsace club. The 31-year-old wing-back, not typically a goal scorer, found the net in the city where he was born. In the 27th minute, Clauss received the ball just outside the penalty area and scored with a left-footed shot, making it 1-1. The French international did not celebrate out of respect for his former club.

Gennaro Gattuso brought on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Azzedine Ounahi mid-way through the second half in an attempt to change the game's dynamic. However, it was in vain as Marseille failed to score again. The inconsistent powerhouse continues to struggle in the league, remaining in the mid-table. However, Marseille is faring better in European competitions, leading the Europa League group that includes Ajax. The French team has the opportunity to qualify for the knockout stage of Europe's second-tier tournament in their upcoming home match against the Amsterdam club on Thursday evening.
