Edinson Cavani is at peace with the fact that there is currently no place for him in the Uruguayan national team. National coach Marcelo Bielsa left the 136-time international at home and seems to be primarily opting for younger players. In the current squad, only former AZ goalkeeper Sergio Rochet is over thirty years old.

Cavani is Uruguay's all-time top scorer after Luis Suárez, and only Diego Godín and Suárez have played more international matches for the South American country.
The 36-year-old forward returned to South America in July, signing with Argentine club Boca Juniors. Cavani has been absent during the last two international breaks and is also not included in the current squad.
'If the national coach thinks I'm not the right player to take, that's fine,' Cavani said in an interview with Telemundo. 'I don't make the decisions. I feel good, and I'm in a phase where I need to pay more attention to where I am right now, which is here at Boca. I don't mind; I'll continue with what I've been doing.'
Cavani has struggled with injuries in recent years. 'Things happen for a reason, and I don't want to dwell on them too much. I'm in a beautiful phase of my life, and I'm enjoying it. Additionally, I try to give my all every day. No, I'm not 25 anymore, like when I used to play three matches a week back then. I'm realistic and understand it.'
