Bundesliga interest for Ajax player Florian Grillitsch

It is by no means certain whether Florian Grillitsch will also play for Ajax next season. The 27-year-old Austrian is in possession of an expiring contract and several Bundesliga clubs are said to be interested in the midfielder. Ajax also has an option for two more seasons in the international's contract.

According to German SPORT1, several Bundesliga clubs are vying for the services of the defensive midfielder. In Germany, Grillitsch previously wore the jerseys of Werder Bremen and TSG Hoffenheim. The Austrian himself is keeping all options open for his future. 'I have realized that as a footballer, I am only happy and satisfied when I am on the field.'

Grillitsch started the season as a substitute under the sacked Alfred Schreuder, but has been in the starting lineup of coach John Heitinga for several weeks now. This was also the case last Sunday when Ajax lost the cup final to PSV at De Kuip. 'Ajax was and is absolutely the right step for me. I am playing here at one of the biggest clubs in the world and have now been able to earn a fixed place.'

Ajax can also extend Grillitsch's contract by two years through an option. 'In the Netherlands, I have become a better and above all more mature player. The most important thing for me is that I will be playing regularly from the summer.'

Grillitsch played in ten matches for Ajax this season. The 27-year-old Austrian already has 35 international appearances to his name.
