Bayer Leverkusen has ended up with Niclas Füllkrug in its search for a replacement for the long-term injured Patrick Schick
Schick has been out of the running for quite some time. The Czech striker played his last game for Leverkusen in March due to a groin injury and is not expected back until the end of October.
BILD reports that late bloomer Füllkrug is one of the candidates to replace Schick. The 30-year-old striker from Werder Bremen has been the first striker of the German national team since late last year and became top scorer in the Bundesliga last season with 16 goals.
No done deal yet
Füllkrug's transfer, by the way, is not yet a done deal. General manager Simon Rolfes refuses to talk about names for now: 'We are looking at which players are available and then make a consideration. Especially financially it is not easy to contract a good striker.'
Bayer Leverkusen will have to pay a transfer fee to Werder Bremen to acquire Füllkrug: the German striker still has a two-year contract in Bremen.
