Mitchel Bakker continues his career in Serie A. Atalanta Bergamo has reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of the 23-year-old left-back, who has also successfully passed the medical examination.

After leaving Ajax in 2019, Bakker is already on his third foreign club. Following his free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, the youth international made another transfer to Leverkusen in 2021 for seven million euros. During the past two seasons, he played in a total of seventy matches in all competitions.
However, Bakker's playing time perspective became uncertain with the arrival of Alejandro Grimaldo from Benfica. Leverkusen was willing to facilitate a transfer and reportedly received around ten million euros for the former Ajax player, who will join three compatriots in Bergamo: Hans Hateboer, Teun Koopmeiners, and Marten de Roon.
According to Italian reports, Bakker was also attracting interest from Werder Bremen, but he has chosen to make a move to Italy. At Atalanta, he will have to compete with Danish international Joakim Maehle and Sead Kolasinac, who was also brought in this week.
