Ajax issues stadium bans and does not rule out the installation of nets in the Arena

The evaluation of the disturbances around Ajax-Feyenoord on September 24th has been completed. Ajax and the local triangle – mayor, Public Prosecutor, and police – state in a statement that violence and disorder will never be accepted. More than thirty stadium bans have been issued, and collective punishments are not ruled out.

The particular edition of Ajax-Feyenoord was definitively halted after fireworks landed on the field. Subsequently, things went wrong in front of the main entrance of the Johan Cruijff Arena, where a group of individuals caused destruction. Ajax reports in a statement that fifteen people have been arrested and a total of 32 individuals have been identified. They will be imposed with a stadium ban.

Ajax and the local triangle prefer to adopt an offender-oriented approach, but it is not ruled out that collective measures will be taken in the future. An offender-oriented approach is not always possible because individuals hide in the crowd or are not recognizable due to wearing a balaclava.

If disturbances occur in the future, Ajax and the triangle do not rule out taking measures such as installing nets, closing stadium sections, or playing matches without (away) spectators. 'However, all parties express the hope that it does not have to come to this and stand behind the tens of thousands of well-meaning Ajax supporters who do behave themselves and must be able to enjoy football safely and undisturbed,' writes Ajax on its own website.
